If you were the victim of an automobile accident and are suffering from mild neck pain as a result, use the following methods to help reduce pain during the recovery process. Following the advice, as well as any given to you by a licensed chiropractor, will help you remain as comfortable as possible each day.

Apply A Warm Compress

Apply a warm compress to your neck whenever you feel discomfort. Warmness will help relax the muscles in your neck, resulting in less pain. Fill a long tube sock with dry rice or beans. Secure the end of the sock by sewing it shut or forming a knot in it. Place the sock inside of a microwave and turn the power on for a minute or two.

Test the warmness of the sock's surface with your fingertips to make sure that it isn't too hot before draping the warm compress around your neck. Secure the ends of the sock together with a clothespin or clip so that it remains in place. Reheat the sock compress as needed and apply it to your neck whenever you begin to experience pain.

Apply Lavender Oil And Give Your Neck A Gentle Massage

Lavender oil is a herbal product that is popular, due to its pleasant aroma and soothing qualities. After showering, go in a room in your home that is dimly lit and that has a comfortable couch or bed present that you can sit on. Apply a few drops of lavender oil to your fingertips. Gently massage the oil into your neck. Knead your fingers around the perimeter of your neck until any pain that you were experiencing has been reduced.

Treat yourself to a self-massage on a regular basis or ask a friend or family member to give one to you when you are experiencing discomfort.

Wear Loose Clothing And A Neck Brace

Wear loose clothing that does not restrict your neck and invest in a neck brace. Put the brace on before getting dressed so that it does not get caught on the fabric that a shirt is made out of. If you are going to be relaxing around your home, wear a robe or trim the neckline of a shirt before putting it on to prevent hurting your neck. After removing the neck brace, avoid turning your head as much as possible so that you do not cause additional damage to your neck.

Continue to use the tips as long as they are needed and visit your chiropractor regularly. With proper care, pain will eventually subside completely and you will feel as good as new. To learn more, contact a company like Smith Chiropractic.
